Think & Thank!

here are just a few days left before we gather with our loved ones, from near and far, to celebrate  Thanksgiving.  It really is one of my favorite times of the year because it provides the opportunity to take a break from the hustle and bustle of daily demands, to fellowship with our family and dear friends, and reminisce together of God’s grace and provision.  While giving thanks to the Lord is of utmost importance, not only on Thanksgiving Day but every day, this holiday also serves to remind me of other special individuals that God has purposely placed in my life.

I pulled an old favorite devotional book of mine off of the shelf called God’s Little Devotional Book – For Students.  While reading through the pages, I came across the following devotional and wanted to share it with you here:

* * * * *

“Learn how to pay compliments.  Start with the members of your family, and you will find it will become easier later in life to compliment others.  It’s a great asset.”

And just as you want people to treat you, treat them in the same way.  Luke 6:31 (NAS)

The story is told of a mother who had raised six boys to manhood.  Her work never done, she had finally taken to her sick bed in utter exhaustion.  Each of the boys came home to see his mother as she lay on her deathbed.  Her oldest son, a powerful and great man, knelt by her bedside and wiping her forehead, said to her, “Mother, you have always been a good mother to us boys.”

The weary woman closed her eyes and giant tears pushed out under the lids and ran down her hollow cheeks.  Then she opened her eyes and said to her son, “My boy, I prayed more that I might be a good mother to you six boys than for anything else.  I was afraid that I should fail in some way to be all that I ought to be you, and I never knew whether you boys thought I had failed or not until now.  Not one of you ever told me I was a good mother until today.”

When was the last time you told a parent, a grandparent, or other adult how much you appreciate all that he or she has done for you?  When was the last time you complimented or gave an expression of value to a brother or sister?  Don’t delay.  The time may come when you no longer have the opportunity.

Late last night, I wrote a few cards to a few wonderful teachers/coaches that have been working with our son, Hugo, over the past few months to let them know just how much my husband and I appreciate them.  Their hard work, dedication, and genuine care and concern for Hugo simply cannot go unnoticed.

Who do you have in mind to get in touch with?  Whether you pick up the phone, make a personal visit, or send a card, let somebody know that you are thankful for them.

Lastly, THANK YOU, READER, for connecting with me today.  God bless you and Happy Thanksgiving!!!
